Cut-off points for low skeletal muscle mass in older adults: Colombia versus other populations

چکیده
Background: The European Working Group on Sarcopenia in the Elderly defined sarcopenia as a geriatric syndrome with diagnostic criteria of low skeletal muscle mass (LMM). Various consensuses recommend cut-offs for LMM, use below 2 SDs from mean index (SMI) young reference group. Given contrast between reported cut-offs, objective this study was to establish LMM older adults Manizales and compare them those published literature. Methods: This prospective, cross-sectional analytical 237 healthy elderly patients city Manizales, Colombia. Anthropometric measurements weight, height body were estimated. SMI estimated Xitron Technologies bioimpedance meter using Janssen formula. For comparison studies that evaluated parameter bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) taken into account, addition being obtained −2 SD sex-specific group. Results: cut-off points 8.0 kg/m2 men 6.1 women. There statistically significant difference when evaluating present Spain, Turkey, Finland. derived sample Colombian women may be adequate diagnosis population. However, we did not find differences comparing population same city. Conclusions: The by BIA or populations similar characteristics here.

Objective. To estimate anthropometric parameters' (APs) cut-off points and association for metabolic syndrome (MetS). Materials and methods. A cross-sectional study was carried out with a total of 434 adult women from Cartagena de Indias, Colombia, in 2012. APs measured were waist circumference (WC), body mass index (BMI), body adiposity index (BAI), waist-hip ratio (WHR) and waist-height ratio...
